The Deep Dark Woods

Jonas

• T’day we got The Deep Dark Woods spinning their magic web over our dull office space. All the way from Saskatoon, and with an alt-country sound others only pray for.

This tight unit of friends have been playing together forever and you can tell by the perfect swing. We found a real treasure – deep within the dark forests of Canada.

Give sweet song Sugar Mama from album The Place I Left Behind a go!

Jason Boland & the Stragglers

• Check out great Texas country band Jason Boland & the Stragglers. This is red-dirt music! They got the steel guitar in front, the fiddle and mandolin in the back and some great songwriting all around.

Dig the song Dark & Dirty Mile from the 2013-album with the same name, produced by Shooter Jennings. It’s for real. And if you by any chance head out to Little Rock, Arkansas this Friday nite, they got a show going on.

• Check out Americana-man Matt Woods, a southern rocker with the folky country vibe in his back pocket. His strong voice makes strong heartland songs even stronger.

Woods has been a figure in the East Tennessee music scene for the past ten years and has performed in several bands as well as working as a solo artist.

Don’t miss his album With Love From Brushy Mountain, released May 13th. The beautiful tune Deadman’s Blues is our Tuesday treat, enjoy!

Meet: Sink Ships

I met a great alt-country band down in Copenhagen. Sink Ships are two Australians, one Swede and two Danes with the darling ”rocking chair on the porch”-vibe . They got a low-key colour impossible to resist, with the pitch-black violin by Emilia Olson being way out wonderful.

Sink Ships are even better live. They deliver the goods; very impressive, very lovely. The bands debut EP Half The Boy (2012) was followed by Sink Ships (2013). Do check them out, start out with songs On My Way and Woke Up Laughing below and imbibe the brilliance.
