Swedish Gold: Slowgold

Amanda Werne, a super talented musician residing in Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden, is really something else.

Her Project Slowgold is pure gold. Dreamy Prairie Rock with Nerves from out of this World. The lyrics are like dancing poetry, that takes your mind to places you thought you’d never see again. Painting Pictures so vivid you can almost smell them.

The Music has references in 70’s rock, but feels so fresh and new that you’d Think that she has created her own genre. Her voice is in perfect tune with the poetry of her Music. The fact that she sings in Swedish only makes it even more personal and more intimate.

Having released ”Stjärnfall” in may this year, she now released her second album this year ”Glömska” . Sounds like a lot? I want more! I just can’t get enough of this.

An artist very dear to Kentuckyseven, danish Broken Twin, recently toured Scandinavia. On this tour, a fellow dane, acted support, an artist called Chorus Grant.

Chorus Grant is Kristian Finne Kristensen, danish singer, songwriter and guitarist with a very american sound. Inspired by artists like Bob James, Elliott Smith, Al Green, Wilco and Cass McCombs.

Mr Kristensen released a live album  ”Live in Concert” in march this year, with recordings from a domestic tour.

The sound of Chorus Grant appeals to our frozen nordic hearts in so many ways. A melancholy that feels familiar to the bone, but also music that allows your heart to feel the hope of nordic summer.

Friday! Freyr! Fantastic!

Magnus

freyr

One half of the amazing duo Brother North, Freyr Flodgren, is creating some magnetically beautiful tunes in a solo project.

A man and his guitar may sound like a cliché, but in this case it is better than the cliché it self, it is like magic in sound. This video, shot at ”Liturgical Room” at  Musikhögskolan in Piteå, way up north in Sweden, is pure and clean. A masterpiece in it’s simplicity. The sound of the strings. The voice in the empty room.

Nothing but love for this. Enjoy this Fridays best tune.

Listen: Nikki Lane – All or Nothin’

Magnus

nikki

Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys is, as we all know, a genius when it comes to creating great sounds and music.

Being a producer, musician or just being there when recording, it turns to gold. As in this case. Auerbach has produced Nikki Lane’s latest album (released in may this year) All or Nothin’, a country-rock-stomping-blues-album by outlaw-singer Lane, that carries it all on her shoulders.

Listen to her telling you that it is all or nothin’ or listen to her duet with Dan, Love’s on Fire. Magic stuff.

Have you met… Brother North?

Magnus

brono

The duo Brother North is Freyr Flodgren and Lucas Enquist. The town of Umeå, in the very north of Sweden, has raised these great musicians. The talented and very multifaceted voices and the great harmonies appeal to my cold Swedish sense. An escape into the warmth of music. Listen and see for yourself…

The self titled debut album was released this week. One of my favorite songs ”Pool of Her” beautiful stuff, just beautiful… And the Icelandic song Krummi… Great stuff. This is something else…

Have you met…. Mount David?

Magnus

mdavid

Mount David is David Andersson, a singer songwriter from Sweden. A man with a voice made of gold. Listening to his music strengthens the sensation of why we love music so bad. A genuine signal in the sound of white noise, a beacon of good feelings and great warmth.

Mount David resides on the same label as I’m Kingfisher Kite Recordings, a Kentuckyseven favorite. And just yesterday, he released a new song… Sit back. Relax. Enjoy.

Horse Thief – Fear in Bliss

Magnus

ht

I am sometimes asked, what kind of music do you write about on Kentuckyseven, and the answer is more than often: hard to describe, but I am sure you’d like it, it is just great music that we love. Horse Thief is a great example of just that.

A band from Texas, now ”finding themselves” in Oklahoma, with frontman Cameron Neal and his familiar voice. Lovers of bands as Fleet Foxes will feel right at home, only this is even more naked and thruthful. Horse Thief just signed with Bella Union (only the greatest label ever) and will release their new album ”Fear in Bliss” April 15.

Hype Machine has an exclusive stream… Plug in. Enjoy.

Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden

How is that for a band name? Kate Tucker and The Sons of Sweden, a quartet hailing out of Nashville, TN. Dreamy Indie Pop that makes you wanna go on a long roadtrip. For us at Kentuckyseven, this was love at first hear. The single ”Blue Hotel” appears on Nashville Indie Spotlight 2014.

The band is releasing their sophomore album this year ”The Shape The Color The Feel”, and judging by the sound and feel of the two songs released so far, this is something to look forward to. Out in stores feb 11.
